Remove a timestamp from a photo
Clear a burned-in time or date overlay from a photo, dashcam or security camera still, while keeping the full original resolution.
The short version
Timestamps from security cameras, dashcams and older phones are burned into the pixels rather than stored as metadata, so the only way to clear one is to rebuild what is behind it. Because they sit in a corner over background, that is usually straightforward.

- Why can I not just edit the metadata?
- Because a burned-in timestamp is part of the image itself, not a metadata field. The pixels have to be rebuilt.
- Does it work on dashcam footage?
- On a still frame, yes. Export the frame first; this is a still-image editor, not a video one.
- The timestamp has a dark bar behind it?
- Include the whole bar in your selection. Removing the text and leaving the bar looks worse than doing nothing.
- Does the rest of the frame change?
- No. Only the region you select is rewritten; everything else is bit-for-bit identical.
