Remove an object from a photo
Paint over anything you want gone and it is rebuilt from the surrounding scene. Full resolution out, free, and no sign-up.
The short version
Removing an object is really two problems: deleting it, and inventing what was behind it. The second is the hard one, and how well it goes depends almost entirely on what the background is doing. Grass, sky, water, road and wall are reconstructed convincingly; a bookshelf or a face behind the object is not.
How to do it
Drop the photo into the editor.
Paint over the object, including its shadow.
Press Remove and check the seam at full zoom.
Questions
- What kinds of object work best?
- Anything sitting against a simple background: a bin against a wall, a sign in a field, a bird in the sky. Small objects on plain ground are almost always clean.
- Should I include the shadow?
- Yes, always. A removed object with its shadow left behind is far more obvious than the object was. Paint both in one go.
- Why did a large object leave a smudge?
- The fill works inward from the edges of your selection. Across a large gap it runs out of context and softens. Break it into smaller passes instead.
- Can I undo just part of it?
- Undo steps back one stroke at a time before you press Remove. After removing, Keep editing lets you carry on from the result.
