Remove a car from a photo
Clear parked cars out of street, property and landscape shots. Road and kerb textures rebuild well, just take the shadow with it.
The short version
A parked car on a plain road is a good candidate, because tarmac is a forgiving texture to reconstruct. What tends to give it away is not the car but its shadow and the reflection under it, so both need to go in the same selection.
How to do it
Drop the photo in.
Paint over the car, its shadow and the ground reflection.
Remove and inspect the kerb line.
Questions
- Why does the kerb look bent afterwards?
- Long straight lines rarely rejoin perfectly across a gap. Removing the car in two shorter passes usually keeps the kerb straighter.
- Can I clear a whole row of parked cars?
- It gets harder the more you take. A row leaves a very wide gap, and the fill softens badly across large distances.
- Does the shadow really matter?
- More than the car does. A car-shaped shadow with no car is the most obvious possible tell.
- Is this useful for property listings?
- It is a common use, clearing a driveway or frontage. Just be sure the result still represents the property honestly.
