Remove background objects from a product image

The short version
On a studio backdrop, anything sitting behind the product (a stray prop, a stand, a fold in the paper) comes out about as cleanly as this tool ever manages. The backdrop is flat or smoothly graded, which is exactly the condition the fill handles best.
How to do it
Drop the product image in.
Box-select the object behind the product.
Remove, and the backdrop closes over it.
Questions
- Will the backdrop gradient stay smooth?
- Yes. Continuing a smooth gradient is the easiest case, and the join is normally impossible to see.
- What about the product reflection on the surface?
- Include it in your selection. A reflection of something you have removed is the giveaway.
- Can it cut the product out entirely?
- No, this is not a background remover. It fills regions you paint rather than isolating a subject.
- Does it change colour accuracy?
- Only inside your selection. Every pixel outside it is unchanged, so product colour is untouched.
